Managing Director
In 1971, Peter left Bostik to start his own rubber company, Abar Rubber. The name “Abar” was arrived at because Peter wanted an early listing in the phonebook and a graphic designer came up with the idea of “a bar of rubber” represented in our company logo. With a young family to support, it was a risky move and only undertaken because Jeff Oliver at Oliver Footwear guaranteed to support him 100% of the way. The footwear sector has been his focus all along, and he has an amazing of friends, trouble-shooting skills and knowledge in this sector. This knowledge has landed him in many countries for business – including Turkey, China, Israel, Canada, Singapore and most recently, the U.S.A. Today he is proud of what he has achieved – owning and operating a successful small business in a very tough, competitive industry. In July of 2009 he was elected honorary life member of The Royal Australian Chemical Institute in recognition of 50 years of service. Outside (and inside) work he enjoys reading, doing crosswords, drinking wine and not playing golf.

General Manager
Ashley joined the family business in January 1999. Coming from a design background, his mechanical skills have been invaluable – helping set up Abar’s new clear-span factory in Thomastown and installing much new equipment. He oversees daily operations, quality control and sales and marketing. Outside work, he enjoys playing tennis, woodworking and spending time with his young family.

Office Manager
Robyn joined Abar in 2009 and is relishing being in charge of accounts. After playing on the tennis circuit for 7 years, she completed a Bachelor of Business (Information Management) in 2000. She subsequently worked in record-keeping, with an eye for detail, thus making her a perfect match for Abar. With three children keeping her busy on the home front, she works part-time. Outside work, she enjoys spending time with her family, playing sport and shopping.
